Good morning, everyone!
I was recently tagged by the amazingly talented Katherine Harbor, author of Thorn Jack (out now with HarperVoyager), to receive the “Very Inspiring Blogger” Award. You can read her original post here: http://katherineharbour.blogspot.com
The rules are simple: List seven things about yourself and then tag others to do the same.
Okay, that sounded simple. But I’m a writer, and writers like to…you know…write. I had a difficult time narrowing things down, but hopefully I’ve done so without being too mundane. If you happen to find any of this interesting, feel free to learn more weird and geeky stuff about me on my other social media sites. https://twitter.com/christiwhitney or https://www.facebook.com/christi.whitney , or https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/8299600.Christi_J_Whitney or http://theatrepirate.tumblr.com
Okay, so here goes:
- I have a background in theatre, including working for eleven years as a high school drama director. I still direct community shows, write the occasional script, do voice-overs and simple video work, and walk the boards myself, when time allows.
- I originally wanted to pursue a career in musical theatre, and I continue to have a passion for the art form. But despite my love for musical theatre, I absolutely can’t stand the musical Grease. AT ALL. As in, I get nauseous when I even hear mention of it. Please don’t use this shocking piece of information against me.
- I spent many years as a closet geek because being an “artsy” person my whole life made me weird enough. And back when I was a teenager, being a girl geek wasn’t nearly as common or as cool as it is now. (Today, it’s like I’m living in a dream world of geek, and I couldn’t be happier. It’s really true that the geeks will inherit the earth). But I have been a geek for…well, basically, forever. I still get funny looks from people, but I’ve grown much more okay with it in my old age. 🙂 One of my biggest geek loves is cosplaying (or costuming). I consider it a fun challenge to choose a character from film, television, or cartoons and seeing how closely I can recreate both the costume and the character. I’ve played everything from Jack Sparrow to Nightcrawler to Bofur from the Hobbit. And everything in between.
- I’ve never been a huge fan of working out, but I am pretty pleased to list that I have run three…yes three…half-marathons in the past five years. Not bad for someone who hates running. (Of course, I probably should get back on that bandwagon).
- I have the delusional thought most days that I’m British. If you ask my husband, he would say I think that way every day. Or, maybe it’s just wishful thinking. I don’t know why I’ve such a love for things UK. I’ve watched such copious amounts of British television over the years that British slang is a permanent part of my everyday vocabulary. I adore the particularly unique art form known as British humor. I got hooked on British sci-fi when I was in middle school. My best friend growing up was from the UK. She taught me to love hot tea with honey and milk. British literature and history have always been favorite subjects of mine to study. Oh, and I have a habit of stalking British groceries and shops in the nearby vicinity. I can’t really put my finger on the exact reason, honestly, but I’m convinced a big part of me lies on the other side of the Pond.
- I hated coffee until I was in my late 20’s. (Curse you Starbucks for your liquid temptations). Now, I believe it’s the elixir of life…followed closely behind by a good cup of tea.
- I’ve a tendency to become slightly obsessive over things I really, really like. Which probably explains why I’m writing this blog surrounded by a plethora of science fiction/fantasy items, Union Jacks and Marvel action figures on display, Lord of the Rings posters, pirate flags, Broadway memorabilia, gargoyle statues, racks of costumes, Disney paraphernalia, and more Doctor Who stuff than is healthy for me. But I love it all. And I regret nothing.
And there you have it.
