Well, this post is a long time coming…
I attended our Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators last month here in Atlanta with some members of my fabulous critique group Trail Mix.
I always love sitting and listening to all the conversations about where people are in their journeys. And, of course, listening to editors and agents never gets old. It’s amazing how every single person has a different take on writing and publishing. But this post isn’t so much about the conference as it is about my critique group and their importance in my own journey.
If you’re a writer or an illustrator, I highly recommend having a group of like-minded people who can encourage you in your work. I appreciate the honest critique I receive as well. (I can’t fix anything if no one tells me something’s wrong!) I’ve made wonderful friends because of Trail Mix, and I can’t express how much a phone call or an email means to me when I’m stuck or feeling a little down. A good critique group is just as valuable to me as a comfortable computer chair, and I wouldn’t trade mine for the world! (the group OR the chair!)
Go Team!!!
